The China Research Group is a research group and parliamentary caucus established by Tom Tugendhat MP and Neil O’Brien MP to explore issues raised by the rise of China and to develop ideas for how Britain and its allies should respond.

The CRG seeks to engage MPs and others in thinking about issues raised by the rise of China, to provide a trustworthy source of news and informed intelligence on China issues and to promote greater debate and fresh policy thinking about China in Parliament and beyond.

We are looking for a committed staff member to join the team and help to coordinate the group’s work. This is a full-time role working on sensitive and high profile issues with MPs, think tanks and other organisations in a fast-moving policy area.

The successful candidate will work on three key areas:

  • Producing a daily newsletter on China issues, for circulation in Parliament and more widely. In particular, this will include translations of key CCP speeches and announcements, relevant international news and excerpts from research publications

  • Planning, commissioning and delivering research projects and briefings on Chinese policy and UK-China relations with high impact

  • Assisting with organisation of events, including roundtables, panels, and podcasts with MPs and external speakers

What we’re looking for:

  • An analytical thinker who can work both independently and collaboratively

  • The ability to be proactive and generate research ideas in a small, high-impact team

  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail

  • Experience carrying out research and/or data analysis

  • Professional written communication style for drafting reports and newsletters

  • Demonstrable interest in China or China-related policy. Chinese language skills are desirable, but not essential

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
